The honeymoon period for smaller players in cybersecurity is nearing an end, predicts Trend Micro CTO Raimund Genes. Achieving profitability has proven to be challenging for startups, while more established companies are thriving, he contends.
In an audio interview conducted at RSA Conference 2017, Genes discusses:
- Why solely focusing on the latest threats, such as ransomware and business email compromises, brings short-term gains but long-term failures;
- How more established companies are maintaining their footholds in the market by getting back to cybersecurity basics; and
- Why many startups that have emerged over the last year will either die or be acquired by larger players.
Genes has more than 30 years of computer and network security experience. As CTO at Trend Micro, he is responsible for working with a team of researchers to introduce new methods to detect and eradicate threats and to predict movements in the digital underground.
