Navigating the Security Landscape of Generative AI

Brian Kenyon of Island on Harnessing the Potential of Gen AI With Security in Mind
Brian Kenyon, chief strategy officer, Island

The advent of generative AI has increased the importance of enterprise browsers as the interface through which users interact with this technology. Enterprise browsers have gained prominence with their role in organizational workflows, which had been somewhat overlooked in the past.

While embracing generative AI is important, it is crucial to strike a balance and put in place robust security guardrails because "generative AI doesn't hit Windows. It doesn't get installed on a macOS or Linux. It's on the web. It's in a browser," said Brian Kenyon, chief strategy officer at Island. "This is a great opportunity for security leaders to start to integrate deeper into the business. We have some tough questions to ask ourselves: What is the role of generative AI, and what is the risk it truly introduces to an organization?"

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group at Black Hat USA 2023, Kenyon also discussed:

  • How enterprises can harness the potential of generative AI;
  • The need for immediate visibility into how AI tools and systems are being used;
  • Island's enterprise-grade DLP for interactive AI-type applications.

Kenyon built his early career in technical roles for more than a decade at McAfee, where he was chief technical strategist as well as CTO. He previously served as chief architect at startup Foundstone and as CSO at Symantec and Blue Coat Systems.
